FPT Personnel

The Future Prospects Tournaments are coordinated and operated by the professional staff of the NAHL.

The 2016/17 season will be Lucas Trombetta's second as the Director of the North American Prospects Hockey League. Trombetta is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the NAPHL and all NAPHL events. Additionally, he is instrumental in managing the Future Prospects Tournaments.

Trombetta played in the North American Hockey League in 1992-93 for the Compuware Ambassadors and Michigan Nationals. He later graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1997 with degrees in Psychology and Health Education. Trombetta spent 11 seasons as a coach and leader at the Tier I youth level, most recently with the NAPHL's Pikes Peak Miners. He was one of the original members of the NAPHL Development Committee, who were instrumental along with NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld in the formation and creation of the NAPHL back in 2009. Trombetta coached Pikes Peak Miners 16U team to back-to-back 2010 and 2011 NAPHL Championships and helped the Miners 18U and 16U teams to multiple Rocky Mountain District tournament appearances. Well over 100 of Trombetta's former players have moved on to play Junior A and College hockey.

Craig Barnett, the NAHL Director of Player Personnel, will be involved with many aspects of the Future Prospects Tournaments including NCAA Academic Eligibility Seminars and directing the NAHL Central Scouting team.

Barnett then played professionally in the New York Ranger organization for two years before entering the coaching ranks. Barnett started the hockey program at the University of Findlay (OH) in 1995 and took that program from club status to the NCAA I level as a charter member of the CHA (College Hockey America).

In 2002, Barnett became the Hockey Director and Assistant Athletic Director at Lake Forest Academy, a prestigious boarding school on the north shore of Chicago. Barnett then became the Director of Athletics at Becker College in Worcester, MA where he was instrumental in starting their NCAA III hockey, football and lacrosse programs. Two years later, Barnett landed the Director of Athletics position at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA where he was responsible for 24 NCAA II varsity sports as well as their 2 NCAA I hockey programs.

In 2011, Barnett was named the Commissioner of the American Lacrosse Conference, a league who had won seven of the past nine NCAA I Championships before being absorbed by the Big Ten conference in 2014. This past year, Barnett became the Commissioner of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, a NCAA I/II league whose conference member Loyola University has won the past 2 NCAA Championships. Craig resides in Erie, Pennsylvania with his wife Andrea and three children, Olivia, Braeden and Jace.

The NAHL Central Scouting team is utilized to evaluate the prospects during games. This team is comprised of former professional, college and/or High School coaches or scouts that are not connected with any current junior teams to ensure non-biased evaluations. These scouting reports will be maintained in the NAHL RinkNet scouting system for NAHL coaches to track.
